The Empire of Entitlement: Part I

The Empire of Entitlement: Part I

You’re being attacked, in some way, shape or form, and while you’re being attacked, your attacker(s) break their ankle kicking you in the nuts. They’re in agony now, and while they’re hobbling around in agony, and you’re lying in the fetal position, your attacker(s) start asking you for help.

There are a few psychological disorders that could be. Perhaps it’s more than one, but the diagnosis matters not because asking the person you are beating the shit out of for help, while you’re beating the shit out of them, is non compos mentis.

California leaders urge Québec to reopen trade as wineries face fallout
The U.S. wine industry has seen a significant drop in exports to Canada. About 80% of U.S. production comes from California wineries.

The request arrived not as a diplomatic missive, but as a plea masquerading as a prerogative. Senator Adam Schiff, stepping into the role of the aggrieved salesman for the American vineyard, has the nerve to suggest that our neighbors to the north should swallow their pride, and the tariffs, for the sake of the American bottom line. It is a poignant moment of irony: we are the ones who curated the chaos, we are the ones who handed the keys of the kingdom to a man who treats global trade like a personal game of Monopoly, and yet, we have the gall to ask Canada to play nice because our pockets are feeling a bit light.

A masterclass in the audacity of the entitled.

I don’t care that Schiff isn’t throwing hands and slinging boots at Canada, that’s being done to them by our federal government, active participant or not, Schiff is a part of. It’s a collective beating. He represents this country and this country is bullying an ally. I don’t fault the American citizenry…much. We’re responsible for who reps us on a national, and global, stage and because we are no longer a population that asks questions (tough ones anyway), listens to the answers, does homework, not that we would read anything on a candidate anyway, or could.

Two-thirds of this country, easily, doesn’t do a damn bit of research, factchecking, or digging into a candidate because that [R] with the red background, that [D] with the blue background, that’s all people bother with anymore. Why do you think media, of all kinds, goes way over the top with color. Republicans get bright red accents, backgrounds, fonts. Democrats get saturated in bright blue. It’s because the media knows that two-thirds of populous, the ones who even bother to vote, are fucking invalids.

They didn’t start doing that to simplify complex electoral map data, they did it because viewers are too fucking stupid to understand a map without it looking like a coloring book.

There’s an amusing dark irony in watching a representative of the American political elites play the victim of economic consequence when most of the architects of that consequence have lunch with him daily. We, America, are the ones who invited the chaos of radioactive sewage back into the Oval Office. We are the ones who sanctioned the erratic unleashing of tariffs that treated our closest allies like inconvenient subordinates. And yet, the moment the bill arrives, the American instinct is not to apologize, but to scream, "But we're America! Why isn't the world taking care of us?"

But see, that’s the quintessential American cycle: set the house on fire, act surprised when the smoke starts to choke the fucking life out of us, and then demand that the neighbors put it out. We treat the globe as our personal vending machine, and when the machine stops dispensing, we don't ask why we broke it, or even how we can fix it; we scream that the machine is being unfair to us. We are a culture of "me, me, me," masquerading as the supreme leaders of the free world, perpetually shocked when the world finally looks at us and decides they’ve had enough of our bullshit.

Goddamnit. I'm only through the intro I have a fucking migraine!
