## **A Good Guy With A Spine**

---

What makes a paranoid conspiracy fiend, with right wing extremist ideological leanings and a propensity to become nearly violent almost instantly a “good guy”. A collection of 336 firearms and a small warehouse full of ammunition, naturally. To nonviolent people, who aren’t obsessed with their dick size, America’s relationship with firearms doesn’t look like a constitutional right, it looks like a national outbreak of smallpox. I can’t fathom being a tourist from Tokyo or Berlin, landing at JFK or LAX, and realizing that within twenty minutes of leaving the airport, you’ve seen three different people in tactical gear rendition someone and witnessed no less than three carjackings. The U.S. isn't a land of the free; it’s a high-stakes game of Russian Roulette played by millions of paranoid, fragile people who are all convinced that their neighbor is about to start a coup. Well, unless your neighbor is Sam Alito.

When a mass shooting happens, which, let’s be honest, is now as regular as a Tuesday afternoon in the suburbs, the global reaction is a collectively bewildered “Why?” Not "Why did this person do it?" but "Why the hell does this fucking maniac have the gun in the first place?" In almost every other developed nation, the idea that a teenager can walk into a store and purchase a weapon capable of piercing body armor is an unthinkable horror story. To them, our freedom looks like a dereliction of duty. It looks like a government that has decided the right to own a semi-automatic rifle is more valuable than the right to the healthcare you will most certainly need when you get shot by one of those fine, upstanding fucking American patriots.

There is no "Good Guy with a Gun." It’s a fallacy that is uniquely American. We’re not in a fucking comic book! Pulling the trigger is not something to be exploited, dramatized, or taken lightly. That choice carries a weight, forever. These days, it seems, people only pull the trigger for two reasons, extremist basement indoctrination, or protecting themselves. How often do you see someone pull out one of the eleven guns they have tattooed to their bodies and pull the trigger to protect someone else? Not that often, huh?

The idea that the solution to gun violence is more guns is illogical, and I cannot understand why anyone, even the stupidest of the stupid, would swallow an advertising slogan for the gun industry, that has allowed countless people, numerous kids…to die! All for a fucking holiday bonus! We aren't protecting our liberty; we’re just LARPing as 18th-century frontiersmen in a world of driverless cars and iPhones. The idiocy will scald you should you go near it. We howl about rights and liberties while living in a state of perpetual, low-grade terror, scanning the perimeter of every crowded space for the nearest exit because we know that someone, somewhere, is having an argument with the voices in their heads.

## **Dick Measuring Contests**

---

The world doesn’t hate us because we’re powerful; they hate us because we use that power with the grace of a rhinoceros getting an enema.

We spend decades lecturing the global community on the sanctity of sovereignty and the rule of law, yet we treat international treaties like optional appetizers on a takeout menu. If a treaty serves our immediate quarterly interests, it’s a sacred covenant. The moment it becomes an inconvenience? Gone. Deleted. We treat the International Criminal Court like our spam folder; we’ll ignore the notifications until they start affecting how much we pay for fucking eggs, and then just block the sender.

The second a non-aligned nation questions our motives for bombing the unholy shit out of a country that’s clinging to second world status by their fingernails that we couldn’t find on a fucking map. And it’s just our habit of installing puppet regimes because they agree to our oil pricing demands, but don’t dare question our goddamn motives or we’ll have to dust off the ‘ol strategic defense excuse, or the terrorism excuse, since option one is no longer working. “How dare you question us! We’re the only thing standing between you and World War III! We can’t let them have nukes!”, you know the routine; we hear it several times an hour at this point.

We’ve taken the word, “freedom”, and managed to weaponize it into a universal solvent that dissolves any inconvenient moral obligation.

Need to destabilize a sovereign government because their leader has oil that we want? Freedom.
Need to build a high-rise full of condos and a casino, but pesky brown people live there? Freedom.
Need to make sure school children go to school in Kevlar because they might not come home, so the firearms industry makes that extra billion? No, wait, that’s thoughts and prayers.

My bad.

## **The Education Gap**

---

We’re number one! America First! Bullshit. The Ivy League is a fantastic machine for laundering nepotism and deploying hollow husks with bought and paid for degrees into positions of power, but as bad as that sounds, it doesn’t truly reflect the intellectual abyss. The disparity is genuinely comical. We’ve managed to create a two-tier system where a tiny sliver of the population is hyper-educated in the art of corporate synergy and venture capital, while the rest of the citizenry is essentially being raised on a steady diet of TikTok infographics and a whitewashed history curriculum that reads like a brochure for a Disney cruise.

China, South Korea, Finland, Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia, and the Netherlands maintain far superior educational systems. Finland and Norway offer free college tuition. Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan dominate Literacy/STEM scores. All those countries have left America in the fucking dust, but we’re number one, right?

Ok, fine.
Since you’re defensive now anyway.
What are we number one in?

o Child Trafficking
o Serial Killers
o Drug Use (Cocaine in Particular)
o Fast Food Consumption
o Healthcare Costs
o Plastic Surgery
o Medical Bankruptcies
o McDonald’s Locations
o Burger King Locations
o Educational Debt
o National Debt
o Mass Shootings
o Guns In General
o Incarcerations
o Carbon Emissions
o Wage Inequality
o Obesity
o Tax Evaders

Do you want me to go on, because I could?

Now, I know I probably triggered some of the more fragile of you, so tell Lurlene to relax. America’s not all bad, we’re number one in Miss Universe wins, and hey, that’s something special, right?

It’s not that Americans are inherently more ignorant, no, ignorance can be fixed. I’m saying Americans are inherently stupider, because choosing to remain ignorant…makes you stupid. We just have a cultural allergy to anything that doesn't have an immediate, monetary benefit. Why learn the complexities of the French Revolution when you can learn how to optimize your OnlyFans account? Why understand the geopolitical intricacies of the South China Sea when you can spend hours making cute little temper tantrum lists of all the people who don’t share the exact same views and beliefs that you do on Bluesky?

This creates a breathtaking level of confidence fueled by a total vacuum of knowledge. It is the Dunning-Kruger effect scaled up to a continental level. We export this willfully ignorant shit to the rest of the world too!

When damn near 43M people can barely fucking read, over half the country reads below a sixth-grade level, and the president might not be able to read at all, sell the number one bullshit somewhere else. Maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll be able to read it.
