**PART III**

The air feels charged, like that weird tension right before a lightning strike. You can see it everywhere; the barista snapping at a customer for taking too long to order, or the way people are walking down the sidewalk, shoulders squared and aggressive, like they're marching into a fight they didn't even know they were part of. All the usual politeness is just gone, replaced by this raw, humming kind of anger that yo

Distraction gives arrival to a man reeking of expensive cologne and fertilizer. When he stepped to the lectern, he didn't wave. Instead, he stared at the crowd with an intensity that felt visceral.

He doesn't promise a better future. Instead, he focuses on the filth of today. He divides the world into "us" and "them" with a natural, practiced hatred. He doesn't offer to help people up; he offers to put a boot on the neck of anyone in his way.

He twists words like "justice" and "loyalty" until they only mean one thing: submission. He feeds the crowd biases and grievances, telling them that their misery is a gift and their anger is a weapon. All the while, he changes the rules of reality as he goes.

This is the Celebrity. He isn't campaigning for office; he is claiming it. He is auditing the city's soul to see how much of the people he can consume before the lights go out.

Pestilence. It becomes easier to spot each day.

The Big Noise is more than just noise. Animus is in his DNA. a vulnerability, a weakness, the sign of an easily corruptible person...easy to contaminate.

He has targeted those who are equally corruptible. bigots, racists, homophobes, misogynists, Christian fundamentalists, cultist, those with an axe to grind for some delusional belief that things rightfully theirs, that they've done nothing to earn, have been stolen from them. The Big Noise knows which buttons to push too.

Hit the subconscious, the ego. everything that makes them feel small, that angers them...exploit it. boil their water until...

Across the plaza, a woman in a tailored suit is chewing her thumb, eyes wide and vacant, humming a tune that doesn't have a melody. Beside her, a man in a faded union jacket is staring at his own hands as if they belong to a stranger, his fingers twitching in a rhythmic, predatory cadence. They aren't just listening; they are absorbing. There is a jaggedness to their movements now, a sudden, violent efficiency that suggests the human element is being overwritten by something colder and more calculated.

The contamination is rolling in from the docks, a heavy, sulfurous grey that doesn't drift so much as it hunts. It clings to the ankles of the crowd, thickening the air until the oxygen feels like wet wool in the lungs. It’s an invasive species of mist, blurring the edges of the architecture and erasing the horizon, turning the city into a claustrophobic room where the only thing left to look at is the podium.

The Big Noise is leaning in now, his voice dropping to a guttural rasp that vibrates in the chest of everyone within a hundred yards. But there is a glitch in the delivery, a momentary lapse where his eyes go flat and the cadence of his speech syncs perfectly with the pulsing ripple of the fog. He’s speaking, but the words are trailing off into a static hum, a frequency that suggests the vessel has finally cracked. He isn't leading them into the mist; he's becoming the conduit for it.

The crowd reacts with a sudden, synchronized aggression, a collective snap of the neck and a sharpening of the gaze. They aren't cheering anymore; they are snarling, their faces twisting into masks of predatory hunger. They turn toward the perimeter, not with the passion of patriots, but with the blind, shivering instinct of a hive that has just been told who to kill.

This will not end well…
